Our platform, www.brenger.nl, connects people in need of a transport for their bulky items to couriers which are driving that way, anyway. By connecting these two sides, we create an easier, cheaper and sustainable shipping solution for the customer. At the same time we create the opportunity for couriers to make their rides more efficient and earn extra money on their route.
Not only these parties profit from our platform, but also the environment. 80% of the customers who buy a big second-hand furniture, used to rent a van and transport the item theirselves. Our solution optimizes the loading of vans driving a specific route, resulting in less vans on the road, which has an enormous impact on lowering CO2-emissions. If every Dutch national between 20 and 65 years old would use Brenger once every two years, we can lower the total CO2-emissions of The Netherlands with 0,5%. That's pretty cool!
Brenger has been live since October 2016 and has been founded by Wisse Koedam en Derk van der Have. Since the summer of 2017, we have been growing extremely fast. Our team expanded from two to fifteen and we've recently raised a new round of investments taking our seed capital to €2 million.
Our platform is initially developed by an external party in Amsterdam and we are currently migrating to an internal development team. We are currently with 5 developers and expecting to double in the coming year.
Our Tech Stack
We are migrating the core functionality to a headless Symfony 4 API with a Node/React frontend. Next to that we want to develop apps for our couriers and customers that will interact with the same Symfony API. When necessary we implement third-party apps and APIs to be able to keep developing the core product quickly and agile. We also use Python 3 for microservices and deploy everything on AWS.
